Elena Rios graduated from Stanford University in 1977. She got her degree in human biology and public health.

In the 1980's, Elena Rios and a group of medical students in California founded a club for Chicano/Latino Medical students. The club helped to support Latino medical students and people in the Latino community.
In 1992 elena rios was invited to meet with people from the White House to teach them about the state of national Hispanic health.

In 1993 the Clinton White House asked Elena Rios to be in charge of a National Health Care Reform Task Force. She helped put together a group of Hispanic Health Experts to inform people about important issues related to Hispanic Health.

In 1994 the US department of Health and Human services hired Dr.Elena Rios to give advice on Minority Woman's Health.
Elena Rios is currently the President of the National Hispanic Medical Association. The goal of this group is to improve the health of Hispanics and other minority groups across the nation.
